CapEQ volunteers learnt a lot at our recent day helping out at The Cowshed in Wokingham. The Cowshed is a compassionate and community-driven charity dedicated to providing support to individuals of all backgrounds during times of personal crisis.

Their mission is simple yet impactful - to offer good quality, cleaned, and ironed clothes and other essential items free of charge to those in need.

They receive more than three tonnes of clothing, toys, bedding, and baby equipment each week, which all needs sorting, cleaning, safety checks, and labelling before being distributed to people referred there by social services or other charities.

CapEQ volunteer Steve Murphy said: “As our ironing skills are not the best our contact Liz put us to work cleaning and assembling and disassembling cots which were urgently needed by clients. We also helped sort through a big pile of children's books.”

The place is packed with volunteers, largely focused on processing the clothing.

This has the added benefit of diverting second-hand clothes from landfill.

Finally, CapEQ also donated £2000 towards running costs for the Cowshed’s day- to-day operations.

If you or your business are looking for new volunteering opportunities, or can help with a donation, the Cowshed team make a big impact to a lot of people.
