A part-time finance role, built around real life

Good part-time roles are hard to find — the kind with genuine flexibility, proper responsibility, and a team worth joining. We think this is one of them.

CapEQ is looking for a part-time Finance Officer to help keep the numbers behind our work accurate, clear, and on time.

You would own the day-to-day finance function — from payroll and credit control to management accounts and cashflow forecasts — working closely with our co-founder, James Pugh.

The hours are designed to fit around the rest of your life: 15–22 hours a week, across two or three days, with the flexibility to agree which.

The contract is permanent, the working pattern is hybrid, and we ask only that you are within about an hour of our office in Reading (M4, J12).

The start date is open, so the right person and the right timing matter more than a fixed date.

Who is CapEQ? We are a mergers and acquisitions advisory boutique — a small, specialist firm that guides founders through the sale of the business they have built. We're an ethical 'B Corp' business, which means our commitments to our people, our clients, and the wider world are independently assessed, not self-declared.

In practice that shows up in fair pay, a culture built around wellbeing, salary set in line with experience, and a profit-share bonus scheme.

If you are an experienced finance professional looking for meaningful part-time work with a team that takes its responsibilities seriously, we would like to hear from you.

Team values

Creative and curious

We back staff to come up with creative solutions to complex client challenges, such as cashflow to scale up, coaching founders to get their business in shape to sell, or helping CFOs find off-market acquisition targets.

We’re always looking for ways to achieve client outcomes – from holding bidders to our timeline to chasing up unresponsive acquirers and investors.

Care and kindness

Everyone is set up to work from home, with fun team meetings and office days (in Reading Berks) to encourage collaboration and check in on each other’s wellbeing.

We’d go as far to say our vibe and culture is wildly different from most corporate finance advisors, but it works – and clients love our openness and professionalism.

Balance and benevolent

While roles are clearly defined to ensure we have specialists for every stage of M&A assignments, we are all capable of supporting each other during hectic periods to ensure a healthy work/life balance for the whole team.

What sets us apart from traditional M&A firms is our drive to be a force for good. That means volunteering days, mentoring start-ups, planting trees, and 97% online meetings to reduce travel time and save emissions.

Open and honest

Trust is essential when it comes to building solid teams, and from leadership to coworkers, we put honesty above all else.

That’s why literally everyone here enjoys the culture we’ve created and feel they are treated with respect and dignity.

Clients agree, with one recently telling us: “...very happy with the team...missing the daily fix of CapEQ."

What’s it like working for us?

Here are just some of the benefits of joining our team.

“I can trust what the leadership team tells me, and I’m willing to give extra effort to help CapEQ succeed.”

Internships

We regularly receive requests for internships from business and finance students.

Although we would love to be able to offer on-the-job training and structured career development, our boutique set-up means we aren’t able to realistically support internships or apprenticeships.

Join us

While our team grows every year, we don’t have any current vacancies at the moment.

However, if you are experienced in any aspect of corporate finance, you are welcome to drop a CV over to us at info@capeq.com so we can get in touch when we’re next expanding the team.
