Schoolbook publisher Zamkor sold to WSIP
Polish textbook publisher Zamkor has been acquired by Warsaw’s former state-run schoolbook publishing house.
Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne Spółka Akcyjna (WSIP) was formed by the Soviet-backed Provisional Government of National Unity in 1945 to supply books to every school and college in Poland.
In 1990, the State School Publishing House (PZWS) was privatised, and later secured investor backing for a buy-and-build M&A plan from US PE house Advent International, Hungarian media group Central Group, and Greek PE investor 7L Capital.
A textbook business sale
Krakow-based Zamkor is the leading Polish publisher of school and college physics textbooks. The shareholders appointed Tomasz Jakowiecki and Mark Sapsford to handle the sale of the business in 2014.
WSIP had made one previous acquisition – niche publisher Book House in 2009. Subsequently, WSIP would acquire edtech business Learning Systems Poland in 2017 and a Warsaw language school in 2019.
In 2024, WSIP was sold to Dutch edtech group Infinitas (formerly Walters Kluwer Education).
